Comments Off on Big numbers highlight first days of Maple Grove Super Chevy Show
MOHNTON, Pa. (July 16) — The Maple Grove Super Chevy Show lived up to its pre-race billing Friday.
The annual event, traditionally the largest Chevy happening in the country, has already outdone itself, already drawing more race cars through tech inspection than competed here last year. The sixth event of the 10-race Super Chevy Show touring series features drag racing, a car show and swap meet on Saturday and Sunday.
“This event has always produced the largest numbers on the Super Chevy Show schedule,” said Lex Dudas, Maple Grove Raceway vice president and general manager. “Once again, the Chevy fans of Pennsylvania didn’t let us down. We had 561 cars at the track on Thursday and Friday, and more are expected Saturday.
“I think it says a lot to what this event means to this region. This is once again going to be the top Chevy event in the country. We’re expecting a great show for the rest of the weekend.”
Friday’s numbers were also high for the swap meet and the vendors along the manufacturer’s midway. There were also a large amount of car show participants on hand, with that number expected to increase on Saturday.
Saturday’s show will also feature a bonus sportsman race, and a pro show with the GM Outlaw Pro Mods invading famed Maple Grove Raceway with two qualified fields of eight cars. The new outlaw Pro-Mod format marks a return to the quartermile action at the Super Chevy Show. It will feature two ladders, one for normal-aspirated entries and one for supercharged Pro Mods.
Also on hand are the jet funny cars First Strike and Top Secret, along with the jet dragsters of Queen of Diamonds and Beast from the East, who will square off to settle their own horsepower rivalry. Bob Hall’s Astrovan Wheelstander, always a crowd favorite, will also be hand.
The top off for Saturday will be an appearance from NHRA legend Bill “Grumpy” Jenkins, who will pick his Top 10 from the Show and Shine area of the Car Show competition. This will be an added feature to the Super Chevy Magazine Editor’s Choice Top 10 Awards as Super Chevy Magazine will be on site gathering information for feature stories, as well as taking photos of cars for their upcoming publications.
