Two-Days of Chevrolets Plus the Annual Saturday ‘Night of Thunder’

MARTIN, Mich. – Whether you prefer your bow tie on a beauty or a beast, there will be plenty on which to feast this week when US 131 Motorsports Park plays host to the annual Super Chevy Show Series featuring the Saturday ”Night of Thunder.”

It’s a two-day celebration of all things Chevrolet that extends from the drag strip to the show car arena to a Chevy-centric swap meet and car corral.  If it came with the iconic Chevy emblem, it likely will be represented in one arena or the other – or both.

Camaros, Cavaliers, Corvettes, Cobalts, Caprices, Biscaynes, Berettas, Bel Airs, Nomads, El Caminos, Monte Carlos, Silverados, Cheyennes, Chevettes, Volts, Cruzes, Chevelles, Impalas, Malibus, Novas, Corvairs, Luminas, Tahoes, Colorados and Suburbans all have been subjected to personalization that makes them unique among bow ties.

Set up for Chevy extravaganza begins with an open test-and-tune session from 5-11 p.m. Friday.

Initial action on Saturday includes the Lane Automotive Bracket Series for Bracket 1, Bracket 2, Street and Jr. Dragster vehicles (all makes), Super Chevy car-and-truck show judging and the 4 p.m. presentation of initial awards for Outstanding Engineered Vehicle, Outstanding Paint, Outstanding Interior, Outstanding Engine, Outstanding Workmanship and Outstanding Vehicle in the Stock, Street and Gold categories.

The awards presentation will lead into the “Night of Thunder” featuring the Great Lakes Nostalgia Funny Cars, Nostalgia Pro Stock cars, the Top Fuel dragsters of Dom Lagana and Kyle Wurtzel, the ultra-radical fuel altereds, Jim Brewer’s “Peacemaker” 1933 Willys wheelstander, two jet Funny Cars and, to close both the 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. sessions, Bob Motz and “The Original Jet Truck.”

On Sunday, show car action intensifies with individual class judging for Best Big Car, Best Camaro, Best Chevelle, Best Corvette, Best 55-56-57, Best Early Chevrolet, Best Conversion, Best Pro Street/Pro Engineered, Best El Camino, Best Nova, Best Monte Carlo, Best Truck and, ultimately, Best in Show.

On the track, champions will be crowned in three different Chevy bracket classes (DriveDuracell.com Top ET, Modified and Street) with cash, trophies and Super Chevy Show jackets to the winners.  There also will be a Jr. Dragster race.

Adult tickets are $20 either day, $15 if purchased in advance.  Tickets for kids 6-12 are $7 at the gate or $5 in advance.  Children under six are free when accompanied by a ticketed adult.

Like all the other events in the series, US 131’s Super Chevy Show will be televised as part of the Menards Chevy Series aired on Velocity TV at 9:30 a.m. EST on consecutive Saturday mornings in October, November and December this year.

PALM BEACH PLANS FOR SUPER CHEVY SHOW IN FULL SWING

SCS_PBIR

Palm Beach International Raceway (PBIR) is gearing up for its first Manufacturers Series event of 2016, the Super Chevy Show on March 19th and 20th.

“We have a heavy Chevy presence here in this part of Florida,” said Dale Gann, Vice President and General Manager of PBIR. “Every year the Super Chevy Show has grown more and more. We can’t wait to see what 2016 holds.”

A fan favorite returning to the Super Chevy Show will be the Pro Show featuring the Jet Cars, which will include Wicked Willy and a new jet semi-truck making one of its first appearances. Credentialed judges will be brought in to judge the car show that features several different categories with winners receiving trophies and jackets.

The Sportsman racing at PBIR will be different than at most other tracks. Instead of hosting qualifying on Saturday and eliminations on Sunday, there will be two complete races throughout the weekend – one on each day.

“By having a race on Saturday and another complete race on Sunday we help cater to more racers; not everyone can make it to both days. It also really brings up the car numbers and the level of competition.”

Fans are encouraged to check back at SuperChevyShow.com in the next few weeks for updated times, schedules, contests and prices for the PBIR Super Chevy Show.
