Long weekend winds down at Super Chevy Show

MOHNTON, Pa. — When all was said and done, the 31^st Super Chevy Show at Maple Grove Raceway certainly drew a lot of attention.

Between racing and the car show there were well over 1,000 participants in the weekend that lasted from early Friday morning to Sunday evening. Add the nearly 400 sellers at the Swap Meet and it’s little wonder that The Grove’s show is usually the largest in the series.

The days were full of racing, from street cars, to 250-mph Pro Mods, to Jet Dragsters and Funny Cars. When everything finished up Sunday night, new standards were set for the Super Chevy tour.

After a long day of racing, champions were crowned in seven different categories.

The DriveDuracell.com Bracket 1 race featured drag race cars with electronics and Aaron Stoker (Elkton, Md.) was on top at the end of the day. He defeated Steve Sisko (Iselin, N.J.) in the final with a pass of 8.402 seconds at 154.71 mph in a Precision dragster.

Bracket 2 was for non-electronics and Marc Januszk (South Amboy, N.J.) took it in a ‘68 Nova, running 9.727 at 136.41 to beat Don Garloff (Lititz, Pa.).

The DOT class was won by Vincent Powers (Landenberg, Pa.) who took his ‘77 Malibu on a pass of 11.839 at 111.29 to beat Layton Finkbiner (Exton, Pa.) in the final.

The Northeast Outlaw Pro Mods always put on a good show at The Grove. Steve Kramer (Pasadena, Md.) won a thrilling final over Freddy Scriba (Abingdon, Md.) in the Nitrous final, going 6.304 seconds at 228.58 for the holeshot win. Tim O’Hare (Ocean View, Del.) took Blown/Turbo when finals opponent Steve King couldn’t make the call after he crashed in the semis.

A new race this year was the 5^th Generation Camaro bracket. Jim Segner (Narvon, Pa.) took his 2010 model to PPC Lubricants Victory Lane when he beat novice racer Anthony Campanella (Wilmington, Del.) with a pass of 13.694 at 100.56.

The NHRA Super Stock/Stock series made yet another appearance at The Grove. This time, Bryan Worner (Duncannon, Pa.) took the winning light in a ‘90 Camaro. He defeated Steve Wecker (Tower City, Pa.), who couldn’t make the call for the final because his car broke.

Providing the entertainment between rounds, included the First Strike and Top Secret Jet Funny Cars, while Jet Dragster pilots Jill Canuso and the Queen of Diamonds and Elaine Larsen battled for the title of “Top Lady.” Danny O’ Day’s Wheestand made two-wheel passes of 150 mph.
